The Affiliation of School and Higher education Leaders (ASCL) surveyed 766 point out-sector school and university headteachers and identified that 95% were going through difficulties when recruiting staff members even though 43% said the problem was “severe”.

Seven in 10 (72%) heads reported they ended up employing source workers to address vacancies, with 69% reporting that they had been employing instructors who ended up not issue experts in courses, whilst 31% described increasing class dimensions to cope with the issue.

Heads cited physics most typically as a tough topic to recruit for, adopted by maths, design and style and technologies, chemistry and computing.

Universities also noted that teacher retention was an problem, with nearly two-thirds (65%) of heads declaring they have been getting difficulty trying to keep workers.

The most commonly cited factors for this were being workload pressures, which the ASCL reported was driven by Authorities underfunding of educational institutions, an “excessive” accountability system, and spend degrees.
